Please find the most up to date notices from the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Dear Village Folks:
Let me start off by thanking our Department of Public Works for handling the huge snowstorm Wednesday into Thursday. The guys worked hard to clear our streets and deserve our appreciation.
We held the Village Hanukkah Menorah lighting last Sunday and a good number of people showed up. My thanks to Suzy Yarmus for leading the event.
Santa will be making his annual visit to the Village on a fire truck tomorrow. You can track his journey on the Storm King Engine Facebook page. SKE will also be collecting food for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley; if you’d like to donate, just leave your donation at the bottom of your driveway.
The fire company has set up a mailbox for Letters to Santa; the mailbox is located in front of the firehouse. Children should include their mailing addresses. They can also hand letters to a firefighter as Santa makes his rounds tomorrow.
The draft 2021-22 Village Budget is posted on our website. The Village Board will hold a Public Hearing on the budget on January 11, 2021.
Take care during the holidays and continue to follow CDC procedures for COVID-19 – wear a mask and social distance. Stay safe.
On behalf of the Village Board and all Village employees, I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
All the best,
Brendan Coyne
Mayor

Lots of people turned out for the tree lighting last Sunday. Thanks to John and Jackie Gioia for providing some holiday songs. Thanks to the Department of Public Works, Storm King Engine Company #2, the Police Department for their efforts in creating an enjoyable evening. And thanks to Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to help light the tree.
Unfortunately, the Storm King Engine was unable to have children chat with Santa due to COVID-19. However, the fire company has set up a mailbox for Letters to Santa. Children should include their mailing address. The mailbox is located in front of the firehouse.
The Hanukkah Menorah will be lit at 5:30 p.m. this Sunday, December 13, rain or shine.
The Police Reform Committee will hold its organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday via teleconference. People are welcome; information on joining the meeting will be available via Facebook and the village website.
FYI - As of Wednesday, December 9, Walden Savings Bank has limited transactions to its drive-thru lanes. Other services are available by appointment.
Please continue to follow CDC procedures – wear a mask and social distance.

Village Folks:
So, Village Hall has continued to run smoothly since we re-opened our doors on Monday, July 6, and visitors have complied with safety plans. The drop-box is always available to pay bills 24/7, located on the drive-through side of Village Hall.
The next Bandstand Concert is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 21; it features The Drizzle, a quartet playing funk, soul and R&B. Lots of people at the first two concerts. Please wear a mask when you can’t social distance.
The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson got a reminder about the 2020 census this week. The village is doing well at just over a 67% response rate but we are far from 100%. If you have internet access, you can respond here: https://my2020census.gov/login. If you don’t have the census mailer, you can go here: https://my2020census.gov/app/intro/state. If you prefer to respond by phone, or have questions, call: 844-330-2020.
The Village Board is combining its work sessions and business meetings in July and August. The July 20 Business Meeting will be held via teleconference.
Stay Healthy!

A new month, with hopes that we will see some progress in how New York State deals with COVID-19. The pause button is still on until Friday, May 15.
Today, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced schools would not re-open this school year. Seniors will be graduating, however, and yard signs congratulating 2020 graduates are popping up. Our school district has a new superintendent. Terry Dade, from the Rochester school district, will start in July. Best wishes to Neal Miller, who served the district for seven years.
Village Hall doors remain closed while we provide essential services; our boards will continue to hold meetings virtually. If you have questions, contact us at 534-4200 or [email protected]. Our website is www.cornwall-on-hudson.org.
So, some more ideas on what to do as the stay-at-home protocol continues. Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, with locations in the Village and the Town of Cornwall, provides places to visit, activities to try and animals to see at its website: www.hhnm.org. With spring here, you may want to start a flower and/or vegetable garden. In addition to offering beauty and edibles, gardening burns 135 calories in 30 minutes and releases hormones that improve one’s frame of mind.
The Storm King Mountain trailhead has been quite busy lately. Scenic Hudson, which owns the trailhead, requests that hikers return at another time if the parking lot is full.
When you can, please continue ordering take-out food to support our local businesses. And to our ever-expanding list of people we are grateful for, let’s add postal workers.
As we continue to cope with the pandemic, let’s help each other day by day.
Stay healthy!

Hope you all are well.
Governor Andrew Cuomo still has us on pause until at least Friday, May 15.
As you comply with safety procedures, please dispose of personal protective equipment properly.
As it did last month, the Village Board will combine its work session with its business meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, May 18, virtually. The date for village elections has changed yet again. The governor has announced they will take place Tuesday, September 15.
Village Water Superintendent Mike Trainor has posted educational briefs on Cornwall-on-Hudson’s water system in recognition of National Drinking Water Week this week. We are fortunate to have a reliable water system. You can access the briefs on the home page of the Village website: COH ON FACEBOOK.
This year’s Memorial Day services will include a brief ceremony on Monday, May 25; alas, there will be no parade. The Cornwall American Legion will be placing flags on graves on Saturday, May 16, and is seeking volunteers. From 9-10 that morning, adult volunteers can pick up flags at the American Legion building behind the Cornwall Library.
Village Hall doors remain closed while we provide essential services; our boards will continue to hold meetings virtually. Contact us at 534-4200 or [email protected]. Our website is www.cornwall-on-hudson.org.
The pandemic brings to mind the special places called stoops and porches.
They provide us places to leave notes, gifts and food, and ways that help remind us of our humanity.
As we deal with this stressful time, it’s great to see how parents, sometimes with assistance from our first responders, help their children celebrate the all-important days of their birth. And while it can be hard to distinguish one day from another just now, remember this Sunday, May 10, is a special day. Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful mothers!

Good to see some more activity in the village this week as the Mid-Hudson Region entered Phase 2. Lots of diners eager to dine out enjoyed dinner outdoors at our restaurants: Painter’s, Peppetini’s, Rock Wall and Village Pizza. Please support them; they are important to the village, in more ways than one.
Governor Andrew Cuomo extended the deadline for the Cornwall school district and the Cornwall library elections till Tuesday, June 16. They must be mailed to the school district’s administration building (the former library building) at 4 Idlewild Avenue, Cornwall-on-Hudson.
The New York State Department of Health issued COVID-19 guidelines for summer camps. The guidelines are extensive. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that the village can proceed with its Summer Recreation Program.
The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum will open Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21. Registration is required: www.hhnm.org/grasshoppergrove.
Village Hall doors remain closed at least through Monday, July 6. The Village continues to hold its meetings virtually. The next Village Board meeting is at 7 p.m., Monday, June 15. You can contact us at 534-4200 or [email protected]. Our website is www.cornwall-on-hudson.org.
Please continue to comply with the guidelines put forth by the Centre for Disease Control: Maintain six feet between people and wear a mask when you can’t.
Stay healthy! Enjoy your weekend.

The Mid-Hudson Region entered Phase 4 of Governor Cuomo’s re-opening as of Tuesday, July 7. Phase 4 includes opening outdoor arts and entertainment to 33% percent capacity, and professional sports without fans. Amusement parks, bowling alleys and movie theaters still are closed.
Village Hall re-opened its doors Monday, July 6. We’ve seen a bunch of people come in to get riverfront permits and to pay water bills. Visitors have complied with safety plans and proceedings have gone smoothly. The drop-box remains a convenient way to pay bills 24/7.
It was great to see lots of people at the bandstand Tuesday, July 7, for the first summer concert. The next concert features Midnight Slim & Laurieanne at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 14. Please honor social distancing and wear a mask when you can’t.
Thanks to the Public Works Department for dealing with the torrential thunderstorm Wednesday, July 8. The village received more than four inches of rain between noon and 3:30 p.m. and experienced extensive flooding. Thanks also to Storm King Engine for pumping out some basements.
The Village Board will combine work sessions and business meetings in July and August. The July 20 Business Meeting will be held via teleconference.
