PRESS RELEASE
May 04, 2020
During the month of April, 2020’ I was contacted by, Mr. Dean Golemis, owner of Global Security and Investigative Services, 284 Main Street, Cornwall, N.Y. 12518. Mr. Golemis advised me that he recently read that the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., Police Department had applied for and received a Grant Award through, PERMA, Public Employee Risk Management Association, Inc., in the amount of approximately $1,775.00, for the purchase of five (5) Point Blank Bullet- Proof Vests and Bullet- Proof Vest Outer Carriers, which would cover half the costs of these listed items.
When Mr. Golemis contacted me he advised me that he wanted to make a formal donation to the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Police Department to cover the other half of the costs accrued for these Bullet- Proof Vest’s and Bullet- Proof Vest Outer Carrier’s. Mr. Golemis advised me that he believed it was imperative that my officer’s had this new safety equipment immediately available to them stating, “this is my way of giving back to the Community.”
Obviously, this was tremendously thoughtful of Mr. Golemis, the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Police Department is a very small police agency in Orange County, N.Y., and it means a great deal to my officers and I that we received such a generous donation.
Prior to owning Global Security and Investigative Services, Mr. Golemis served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department where he finished out his 20 year career there as a, B.C.I., Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Investigator, so he’s very familiar with the daily risks and dangers Law Enforcement Officers face everyday.
Once again, on behalf of the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., Police Department, thank you very much, Mr. Golemis, for your generous donation of $1,775.00 to this police agency!!

Chief Steven E. Dixon

Dear Cornwall-on-Hudson residents, neighbors, and friends:
So many exciting things going on in the Village to tell you about. It truly makes coming to work every day -- less work -- and much more a blessing.
We are moving forward on Donahue Farm purchase. New York State Supreme Court approved the purchase -- required when involved party is a 501(c)(3). The Attorney for the Village is currently reviewing all relevant documents and beginning the process to close; hopefully within two weeks.
On Tuesday, May 4th, I will host a “Village Mayors’ Roundtable” attended by all living former mayors. In attendance will be the Village’s 25th mayor (C. Obremski, 1979-1981), 26th (E. Moulton, 1981-2007), 27th (J. Gross, 2007-2011), and its 28th (B. Coyne, 2011-2021). Entirely too much “living history,” subject-matter-expertise, and invaluable knowledge about our wonderful Village, its origins, and the best path forward for me to miss this opportunity. I promise a photograph to memorialize the roundtable and will share with all.
Please know that the Village Board is engaged in an examination of all the facts related to the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA) set in place by the New York State legislature and enacted by the governor on March 31st. We are closely reviewing the summary of provisions and guidance provided by Orange County District Attorney’s Office and will deliberate over what Village may endeavor to opt out of, as permitted by law.
Don’t forget about the Donahue Memorial Park cleanup – the 10th annual Riverkeeper Riversweep event Saturday morning, May 1st, between 9:00am and 12:00pm. You may find more information, along with required pandemic precautions at [email protected].
We all remain in this together. Enjoy the weekend. Blessings to all.
James A. “Jimmy” Gagliano

Dear Village Folks:
Let me start off by thanking our Department of Public Works for handling the huge snowstorm Wednesday into Thursday. The guys worked hard to clear our streets and deserve our appreciation.
We held the Village Hanukkah Menorah lighting last Sunday and a good number of people showed up. My thanks to Suzy Yarmus for leading the event.
Santa will be making his annual visit to the Village on a fire truck tomorrow. You can track his journey on the Storm King Engine Facebook page. SKE will also be collecting food for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley; if you’d like to donate, just leave your donation at the bottom of your driveway.
The fire company has set up a mailbox for Letters to Santa; the mailbox is located in front of the firehouse. Children should include their mailing addresses. They can also hand letters to a firefighter as Santa makes his rounds tomorrow.
The draft 2021-22 Village Budget is posted on our website. The Village Board will hold a Public Hearing on the budget on January 11, 2021.
Take care during the holidays and continue to follow CDC procedures for COVID-19 – wear a mask and social distance. Stay safe.
On behalf of the Village Board and all Village employees, I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
All the best,
Brendan Coyne

Good Friday afternoon.
I’m happy to report that the COVID-19 vaccine is now available to the Village’s first responders. Our police officers and firefighters are getting vaccinated. The vaccine has also become available to our essential workers, employees in the Public Works and Water departments.
We recently posted a wonderful video of majestic Storm King Mountain on the Village website. The video shows Storm King in all its glory. Kathleen Christensen, Village Historian, is developing a small library on the Battle for Storm King, the 17-year successful effort to stop Con Edison from building a power plant on the mountain.
At the Village Board’s Work Session Monday night, I announced plans to purchase Donahue Farm. The property has many potential uses including a community center, an athletic playing field, hiking and a wedding venue. The property was the original site of the Cornwall Independence Day Celebration.
As we continue to cope with COVID-19, please carry on with staying safe: wash your hands frequently, wear your mask and keep six feet away from people.
Enjoy your weekend.
